Alright

A few years after Poppaloopa I taught myself to play guitar, and the songs started coming out differently, closer to the records I grew up on. Alright is the result.

I recorded it at my place in Malibu and mixed it with Tony Hodson at Studio C in Stockton. Friends played on it: Daniel Bejarano on drums, Carlos Villalobos and Mike Torres, with help from Cory Lerios. Mark Carter co-wrote four of the songs and took the photos.

I released it myself in December 2004. KCRW’s New Ground played “Lovely,” “Evangeline” had a moment on MTV’s TRL, and a college radio campaign the next spring put it on a few dozen stations.
